AGAINST THE BACKDROP OF HIS WILL
BIBLE READING:
PSALM 40:6-8
JOHN 4:34
MATTHEW 26:36-46
And saith unto them, “My Soul is exceeding sorrowful unto death; tarry ye here and watch” and He went forward a little, and fell on the ground, and prayed that, if it were possible, the Hour might pass from Him. And He said, “Abba Father, all things are possible unto Thee; take away this Cup from Me, nevertheless not what I Will, but what Thou wilt.” Mark 14:34-36 (KJV)
Beloved, as we approach the Passion Season, it is imperative to remember the Old Rugged Cross, the Price He paid for our sins. Salvation is not cheap even though it’s free unto all that believe in the Only Begotten Son. The Scripture declares, “For God so loved the world that He gave His Only Begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have Everlasting Life" (John 3:16).
Jesus said, "I have Power to lay down My Life" but He chose to obey the Father unto death on the Cross (John 10:15-18; Phil. 2:5-11). At the Garden of Gethsemane, He took Peter, James and John with Him to pray because His Heart was very heavy and exceedingly sorrowful unto death. This was the point where He laid down His Will to embrace the Father's Will (Matt. 26:36-46).
Just like from time to time we battle with our wills in obeying the Word of God and the Leading of the Spirit, Jesus had to battle with His but thank God that He overcame unto obedience. The Scripture tells us that He learnt obedience through the things that He suffered *(Heb. 5:8)*and because He overcame, we can also do likewise through Christ Jesus our Lord.
In Psalm 40:6-7, the Scripture declares and I quote, "Lo, I come in the Volume of the Book as it is written of Me, O Lord; I delight to do Thy Will, for Thy Law is within My Heart”. The songwriter says, "Take my heart and mould it, Take my mind, transform it, Take my will, conform it to Yours, O Lord."
PRAYER:
Father, please help us to always lay down our will for Yours especially in difficult situations. Please, enable us by the Ability of the Spirit to obey You always in Jesus' Mighty Name. Amen.
